The latest express entry draw was a PNP-specific draw and selected 392 applicants to apply for Permanent Residency.

The most recent Express Entry draws of Canada came out on 5 Jan. It was a  Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) specific draw that required a score of 808. As the PNP is nominated, applicants are allotted a score of 600 additional points on getting the nomination. Thus, the selection score is always set at a high number. Ideally, as per the score requirement, the applicants need 208 points against their PNP.

For now, the express entry applicants are selected on the basis of NOC Skill Type 0, A, and B but this classification is expected to change soon when TEER comes into effect in 2022.

The Key highlights of the draw - 5 Jan

  • ITA - 392
  • CRS - 808

It is expected that IRCC will be holding the large draws to meet the immigration targets set for the year 2022. The Canadian Immigration target is set at 411,000 new permanent residents this year. Last year, to meet the target, the IRCC tried to target the applicants who were already in Canada. Therefore, a large number of CEC and PNP candidates were accepted in 2021. The score requirements in both the draws are vastly different from one another. The score requirements are different in CEC and PNP draws as applicants are not competing for invitations.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the fastest immigration system for skilled workers in Canada, and immigration is divided into three programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

It uses the Expression of Interest (EOI) system, where the applicants are ranked per their credentials. The CRS point calculator is used to help the appellants gain points as per their age, language, education, work experience, etc. It is the high-scoring applicants who are issued the ITA.

Those who are unable to meet the Express entry requirement can immigrate through the provincial nominee program.
