The AIPP work permit application submission has become online from 17 August 2020. The paperback applications are also acceptable until 1 September 2020. The flexibility has been provided because of the pandemic that has hit the world.

Canada Immigration Department now accepts Online Applications for AIPP Work Permit

Canada's immigration department is taking all the necessary steps to ease the immigration process during pandemic times. Canada is among those few countries which were eased out in the immigration of applicants even during the COVID 19. It has provided enhanced flexibility to the aspirants now by accepting Online applications for a work permit under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP).

They are starting on 17 August 2020. The Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is accepting applications for the AIPP work permit. The paper applications will be accepted until 1 September 2020.

AIPP Program provides a pathway to Permanent Residency(PR) aspirants provided that they have a job offer in one of the Atlantic provinces of Canada. The provinces are - Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova scotia. Before applying for Permanent residency, candidates require a work permit to work legally in Canada.

To get Work Permit, the candidates will have to fulfill the following eligibility requirements-

  • Should have a valid job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic province
  • Get a referral letter from the province
  • A commitment to apply for the Permanent residency within 90 days of the temporary work permit

After these eligibility requirements are met, the applicant will be eligible for a one-year employer-specific work permit in the Atlantic region. The spouse and common-law partners in such cases are eligible for an Open work permit as well. for the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) there is no need for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

As a part of the process after the candidate has accepted the job offer, the employer needs to connect to the designated settlement service provider organization to develop a settlement plan. Employers are expected to support the long term integration of newcomers in the country. After applying for the temporary work permit, the foreign nationals must apply for the PR status within 90 days time.

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is in place until 31 December 2021. the Pilot program was launched in 2017 and has admitted over 7000 immigrants so far. It is a highly successful program; thus, it achieved a three-year extension.
