Alberta conducted the second-smallest draw of the year with a high CRS score requirement of 350 on 24 November, 2021 inviting only 100 candidates.

The details of the November 24 draw are out, and they have invited 100 Express Entry candidates for permanent residency. The applicants were selected through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) category. This was a small draw considering that most of the draws of Alberta have selected more than 200 applicants at a time in previous draws. Apart from this, a draw in January was small enough to invite 100 applicants, and the smallest draw has invited 50 applicants.

The draw's score requirement has been set at 350 points and the other draw this year saw a high cut-off of 360 points in January.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has set the limits for the number of nominations that Alberta province can issue every year. For 2021, Alberta Province has a target of 6,250 nomination certificates. Till now, the province has already issued 6,094 nomination certificates. It will be one of the reasons why the draw size is as small as the targets are already met mostly.

As of December 7, there are more than 400 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and around 825 expressions of interest applications that were kept in the Alberta Express Entry pool.

How does the Alberta Express Entry Stream work?

The Alberta Express Entry stream is linked to the federal system and is an enhanced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It means that the applicants are selected and picked from the federal government's Express Entry pool of candidates and select applicants who will be eligible for a provincial nomination.

Express Entry is a point-based system to help select the skilled workers. They are shortlisted through three programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Those applicants who are able to meet the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) are picked for the nomination.

They get points as per the age, education, work experience, language ability in English or French, and other factors. Through regular draw, the applicants are selected, and it is the highest-scoring applicants who are picked for Permanent residency.
