IRCC Laying Emphasis on Temporary Residents

The strategy of Canada Immigrations has changed since the onset of the Pandemic. The IRCC is now inviting appellants in an alternative draw of PNP applicants and CEC applicants. This has been implemented due to COVID-related travel restrictions and with the aim of curbing the infections. Amidst the crises, the IRCC has a target of Canada Immigration level for 2021 set for 108,500 new immigrants through Express Entry-managed programs. With the temporary residents becoming permanent, there is an aim to meet these targets in time.

With this latest draw, IRCC has selected 68,817 Express Entry candidates for permanent residence so far.

What is Express Entry?

Express entry is a fast model of immigration for skilled workers and selection is point based. The three streams under this program are - Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Those applicants who meet the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) requirements are selected under the program and are provided the Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

There are also enhanced Express entry streams where the provinces have linked their selection to  Express entry. Thus, those appellants who are unable to get selected through the Express entry can appear for Provincial Nomination and move their way up the ladder for the PR status.
