The ‘Canada Super Visa’ allows parents and grandparents of the primary applicants (or permanent residents or citizens of Canada) to visit them for up to two years at a time. The Canada Super Visa allows applicants to visit Canada for up to ten years. In order to apply for Super Visa Canada applicants must understand its eligibility criteria and major requirements to avoid cancellation of visa application.

It is important to note that parents and grandparents willing to stay in Canada for a period of six months or less and have blood relation with the primary applicant (or Canadian permanent residents or citizens) can also apply for Canada Visitor Visa, instead of Canada Super Visa.

What are Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Canada Super Visa?

The applicants need to fulfil all requirements of Canada Super Visa mentioned by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The processing time depends on applicants’ country of residence or present location since it involves biometrics identification as well.

Only parents or grandparents of Canada permanent residents or citizens are eligible and can easily apply for Canada Super Visa. Also, applicants should have a signed letter of invitation from the primary applicant (or their children or grandchildren) inviting them to Canada.

Other Important Documents Required to Apply for Canada Super Visa

It is important to note that the letter of invitation does not make applicants eligible to get the Canada Super Visa. It is just a part of application process through which immigration officials verify facts given in applications. It helps authorities to cross check the authenticity of applicants’ identity and need to visit Canada.

In order to apply for Super Visa Canada, the applicants need to submit a written and signed promise of financial support. They must submit a proof of complete name and address as well as their relationship with the primary applicant or their grandchild or grandchildren, who are permanent residents or citizens in Canada.

The financial proof also includes documents highlighting the income of their grandchild and that it must either meet or should be above the low-income cut-off (LICO). This income threshold or minimum necessary gross income should be $25,921 CAD if only once the applicant is inviting grandparents.

In case two primary applicants (grandchildren) are inviting, then this income threshold should be $32,270 CAD.

Applicants must prove their authenticity or genuine identification to the immigration authorities for smooth and fast processing of visa applications. They must convince the authorities about the purpose of their visit and that they will return to their home country on or before the granted period of stay in Canada.

What are the benefits of a Canada Super Visa?

  • Canada Super Visa comes under the category of temporary visa. It is far better than the Canada Visitors Visa, which has a validity of only six months. Further, if applicants would like to stay for a couple of extra months in Canada, then they have to apply for an extension of visa and pay additional fee to the IRCC.
  • The Canada Super Visa for parents and grandparents allow the applicants to visit their families in Canada for up to two years without making an effort to get a visa extended or renewed for further stay with their families.
  • It grants multiple entries for ten years. Applicants are allowed to stay in Canada for a maximum of two years in a single visa application process.
  • Compared to Parents and Grandparents immigration gateway (a permanent residency immigration program or PGP), Canada Super Visa has eligibility criteria that can be fulfilled easily. Also, Canada Super Visa has faster application processing than PGP. Canada Super Visa can be processed within a few months, while PGP application processing sometimes takes a year or more than a year or minimum 32 months as per the website of IRCC. Currently, IRCC has a huge backlog of PGP applications.
  • The processing of Canada Super Visa applications depends on applicants’ country of residence or their present location. From many countries, the processing of Canada Super Visa simply takes about 100 days.
  • The IRCC received around 200,000 sponsor forms for the PGP during 2020 and 2021. It is interesting to note that most of the applications were not meant for PGP, rather these are filed by families, who were seeking opportunity to apply for the PGP. Currently, there are around 35,000 PGP applications with the IRCC after the withdrawal of many applications which were filed in 2020 and 2021. Experts believe that many families might have intended to rejoin their grandchildren for a short period of time, but because of lack of clarity about right immigration pathways many applicants had to either withdraw or cancel their applications.
  • The PGP applicants can apply for Canada Super Visa and stay in the country with their families if their PGP application is in the processing stage. Reliable immigration consultants can facilitate these processes in a hassle free manner.
  • Canada Super Visa is granted easily to deserving applicants, while PGP has a lottery system. Experts believe that the lottery system is not an organised process. In the lottery pool sometimes applicants, who have recently submitted applications get selected in comparison to applicants, who might have been waiting for years. On the other hand, Canada Super Visa does not follow the lottery system, which makes system and application processing easy for applicants.
