When Countries like America have suspended their immigrations in the time of COVID 19 pandemic, Canada’s immigration is open with travel restrictions being imposed. Further, the country is looking forward to meeting its immigration target of 3,41,000 in 2020.

Canada Immigration Remains Open While America suspends all Immigrations

One of the most prominent hit nations by COVID 19, The United States of America, suspended all immigration to the country temporarily. This move is in stark contrast to Canada, where the Immigrations are still open, and the regular draws are also being conducted.

The announcement from the American Government came directly from President Donald Trump through his Twitter account on Monday. The immigration closure will be effective from Wednesday when the executive order will be signed. America is one of the most severely impacted nations by the invisible enemy of COVID 19 and has lost more than 35,000 lives in the battle, with more than 8,50,000 people infected. This, the move to stop all the immigration to the country with immediate effect, seems to be the right move in the present scenario.

The temporary suspension of Immigrations is expected to last for 60 days for the permanent Resident Visa holders. However, there are expected to be some exemptions. For some people, the move is also expected to be a relief form the economic consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Canada Immigrations to Remain Open

Canada is also highly affected by the pandemic, but despite the scenario, the Immigrations remain open with travel restrictions. The exemptions are put in place for temporary foreign workers and international students. Even the foreign nations are invited to submit their applications for processing of the Canada PR status. To take the pressure of the documentation process, the Canadian government has explained that the incomplete applications with improper documentation will not be rejected.

Canada is holding federal and provincial draws without any restrictions and has announced and implemented the travel restrictions from March 16, 2020. Since then the following draws have been conducted by the IRCC:

  • Express Entry Draw on March 18
  • Alberta Provincial Nominee Draw on March 18
  • Express Entry Draw on March 23
  • Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Draw on March 26
  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Draw on March 26
  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Draw on April 6, 7 and March 30
  • Two Express Entry Draws on April 9
  • Express Entry Draws on April 15 and April 16
  • British Columbia Provincial draw on April 16

Express Entry is one of the best ways for skilled workers to immigrate. As per the 2020-22 Immigration level plans, Canada is looking to invite 3,41,000 candidates in 2020 and 3,51,000 in 2021.
