In light of the new Omicron virus discovered, Canada has imposed travel restrictions from ten countries to prevent the spread of this new variant.

Canada has restricted travel to ten countries with the new variant of CoronaVirus - Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi have been added to the list of countries.

Presently there are strict border restrictions, and the countries that have been recently added to the list include countries like Nigeria, Egypt, and Malawi.

The Canadian government announced that several more countries had been added to the list of those currently subject to stricter border measures. The foreign nationals who have been to these countries in the last 14 days are forbidden to enter Canada. They are now added to the list of seven southern African countries who were added to the list last Friday.

Now ten countries have been added to the list of countries that have restrictions. With a negative PCR test, the appellant will now be allowed to enter Canada, and when they reach Canada, they will be subject to more testing and quarantine measures.

In addition, all air travellers barring those who are coming from the USA irrespective of their Canadian immigration and vaccination status, will have to undergo testing at the airport when they land in Canada. These applicants will have to self-isolate until they have a negative test that is confirmed. They will have 72 hours to get the PCR test done and travel to Canada. This measure is also applicable for those people who have received both their vaccinations.

The Canadian government said that further consideration would be given to those applicants who have potentially been adding this requirement to travellers entering Canada from the U.S. by air and/or land. These strict measures have been put to place after the coming of the new COVID 19 variant, Omicron, which was discovered last week in South Africa and is now a cause of concern for the whole world.

On November 26, the foreign nationals traveling to South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Namibia, were stopped from entering Canada, and now, since the new Omicron variant is a high-risk virus, the restrictions have been further tightened.

Till now, there are five cases of the Omicron COVID 19 virus that has been confirmed in Canada.
